I received a wonderful book in the mail complements of an amazing children’s book author named Jennifer Hess. I found her ad on Facebook for Sillybugbooks.com and contacted her about reviewing her work and happily she accepted. Jennifer was kind enough to send me a personalized copy of “Don’t Get Bit By The Silly Bug”. My children and I were so excited to receive the book in the mail and tore it open immediately! We cuddled up on the couch and read it together right away. Honestly, when I checked out the website I knew that Jennifer Hess’s books were adorable, but having one in my hand and seeing the gorgeous colors of the artwork and reading the entire story with the kids glued to the pages proved that this author’s work surpassed my expectations. What a great story, and what amazing art work. Jennifer is both a writer and an artist-truly.

Silly Bug Books are more than story books, they are keepsakes that you will treasure for years to come because Jennifer uses your child’s photo in a few of the pages. I sent her a picture of both of my sons and she used the boys in the story. Oh how they howled when they saw themselves getting bit by the silly bugs! I must have read it at least 10 times before they closed their eyes that night. My oldest son loved the picture of himself with big bold google eyes-it is hysterical, and the little one loved the picture of himself peeking through his legs upside down. The story is written in rhyme -which I love and tells the story of the silly bugs and what they can do to little kids. I decided to take the book with me to the pre-k today for circle time. I wanted to get the opinion of a wider audience for this review; it came as no surprise that they all loved it. They were giggling all the way through. Note to self: In the next story I write for kids, I must include the word or a picture of underwear; it is a huge hit with the 3 and 4 year old circuits! They absolutely loved it and wanted me to read over again once more in circle time and again as they ate snack. They also loved the picture of my son with the google eyes and they insisted on being able to see it up close so they could touch the eyes (which aren’t three dimensional by the way, but they still needed to touch them). So, there you have it: “Don’t Get Bit By The Silly Bug” by Jennifer Hess, is a hit with the little ones and with me. On a personal note, I need to thank Jennifer Hess for motivating me to get my own children’s book finished. She was very forthcoming with information on the methods she used in writing, illustrating, and publishing her book. I found her to be very helpful and super sweet. Thank you Jennifer.

Oh, I nearly forgot to mention that she has another book available. It is a counting book called: “[Child's Name ] Counting Book. Each page has a number and its corresponding number of items-for example 2 brown fish, 3 pink pigs. The counting book is precious too because your child’s face will be the head of each fish, each pig, each star and etc. This book teaches numbers, colors, and would make a great primary reading book due to its simple site words.
