Online Shopping

Well, It is officially November!  I can’t believe it!   Thanksgiving is just a few short weeks away which for me brings both a feeling of excitement and a little bit of anxiety because Thanksgiving, although one of my favorite holidays, brings with it BLACK FRIDAY 2009  (the official kick-off to this year’s  holiday shopping here in The United States) and Cyber Monday 2009 –the day when (undoubtedly) I, and hopefully for the well being of this economy, many others will be shopping ON-LINE to get the best deals out there.  Cyber Monday is the day when most companies entice shoppers to shop online by promising  them some of the greatest deals of the season!  I am very anxious to see what type of sales will be offered this year.   Heaven knows, we ALL need bargains this year!   My sons have serenaded me (pretty much since birth) with chants of “I want that” and as of late the toy advertising on the kids’ channels has been relentless and those chants are coming at me like wildfire!  I am REALLY going to need to find some great deals online if I have any hopes of making Santa Clause look good this year!

I have been using the internet to do most of my holiday shopping since the boys were born (6 years ago).  Cyber Monday always serves as good motivation  for me to get an early start on my holiday shopping because of the great deals shoppers can find.  For moms with little ones it is simply easier to shop online with no kids underfoot.  Santa can remain a mystery when you don’t have the kids following behind you in a toy store.

So what are we buying this year compared to last year?  I posed this question to my fellow moms on facebook.  MANY of them will in fact be shopping online again this year and many of our favorites from last year are back on our shopping lists.  Here is what they said they will be buying this year:

THE TOP CONTENDERS ARE:  The Wii Gaming System, Wii FIT, and Wii games and gear– These seem to be on most of the mom’s lists. Running a close second in line is the Nintendo DS Lite and its newer model the Nintendo DSI which without a doubt has more to offer than the DS Lite, as well as a huge list of DS games. In my house the lego versions of Batman, Indiana Jones and Star Wars are a huge hit.  Check those out for sure!

Disney Toys are in high demand for those moms with babies and toddlers. The Handy Manny toys seem to be popular for the little boys as well as the Toy Story line due in part to the recent re-release of the two films in theatres.   The Disney Princess lines and Dora themed toys will probably never go out of style for the little princesses in our homes which is why they are still on top of the Christmas lists.   Children’s DVD’s are also proving to be the stocking stuffers of choice.

Ranking high for the boys is anything Bakugan and Pokemon, and let’s not forget all things LEGO!  There have also been requests for Bop It (both in my home and the homes of my facebook fans) and the new version of Connect Four.   For the younger set of girls, moms are going with Hannah Montana, and Wizards of Waverly Place themed items and Disney Sing It.  Let us not omit anything Jonas Brothers either.

Moms with older kids  report that clothing is in demand and Ipods  are being requested.    This is where it gets expensive folks.  Not that a Wii isn’t pricey, but Good Grief Charlie Brown, some of these clothing lines are as expensive as a Wii!  Sneakers–Don’t get me started on the price of sneakers!   What are the older ones asking for specifically?  I had no idea so I had to ask the moms with teens what is hot and here is what the moms are reporting “per their children” as the gotta have it brands:   Abercrombie, Aeropostale, Hollister, and Lucky Brand for both guys and girls alike.  UGG boots are what the teen girls want this year.  They wear them with sweat pants, jeans and even skirts.  What we would once consider as a fashion don’t  is now the trend.  Nothing changes I suppose.    Most moms are going with the gift cards in fear of making the wrong choice.

What will I be purchasing this year?  So many “I want thats!” SO LITTLE MONEY!  Santa will be sure to try to get what they want most, but with discretion and utilizing coupon codes for sure!   The six year old wants the Sponge Bob Drawn To Life part 2 DS game for his DS (among others) and the 4 year old has his eye on every LEGO set that is on the store shelves.  OH how those pieces will undoubtedly end up lost!  He just loves to play with the people from the sets.  I will have to look at the lego website and see if I can get a hundred pack of people!

So tell me, what will you be buying come Cyber Monday?

Blessings,

Cheryl
