THAT’S A WHOLE LOT OF SANTAS!
WHAT IS SANTACON?
SantaCon is a not-for-profit, non-political, non-religious & non-logical Santa Claus convention, attended for absolutely no reason. It is a global yearly convention that has apparently taken on a life of its own! Thousands of people dress up like Santa and have a convention simply to show their Christmas spirit. I LOVE IT! You don’t need to dress like Santa, it can be anything Christmas related–come as a gift, or a tree, or a nutcracker if you want–but come dressed festive!
Why haven’t I heard about this before? I guess I live in a world of cartoons with the kids and missed it on television but there had to have been some news coverage on this this year. If there wasn’t then I don’t know what is wrong with the media in our country. What a wonderful event.
A random email from a friend who actually particpated enlightened me to this whole Santacon celebration. I think it is AWESOME! He posted a pic of himself in a Santa Suit in the NYC Subway and I emailed him with–Wow that was so cool-you rode the train like that all day? He emailed me back with a bunch of links. I thought I would share some of the pics I found on flickr

Ella Bella Hairclippies Giveaway
A few months ago I decided to create a website for my 3 year old program at the pre-k. I thought it would be a great way to show the parents what we do in class each day (or at least every few days if I wasn’t able to post each day). The parents love it! I began the website the first week of school and I have posted once or twice a week with videos, pictures, and comments about what we have been learning along the way. I bring my camera to school every day so that I can capture cute moments, or special craft projects on film. The camera has become part of our day and the kids are complete hams in-front of it! Heaven forbid I don’t take a close up or single shot of each kid–Well, let’s just say I don’t hear the end of it until I go in and get the shot I missed! lol
I think creating a blog or website for a class (or even for a family) is a fantastic idea for many reasons. First of all, It is a way of preserving memories. The pictures will never rip or fade, you can add comments under each photo. Secondly, creating a blog or website is inexpensive, and third, a website or blog makes it easy to share photos with people (friends and family) all over the world! My student’s parents can send the blog link (URL) to anyone that they want to share their children’s classroom adventures with. It’s really such a great idea. I don’t know why more teachers don’t utilize the free blog as a classroom tool. I can also place important messages, notices, and even homework assignments on the blog for those whose children may have been absent on a particular day. I love using the blog –I should have started it last year.
When I first thought up the idea to start a website for the class, I wasn’t sure if the parents would want their children shown in a blog or on a website so I got signed consent form from each parent prior to beginning the set up of the site. Every parent was anxious (excited) for me to get the website started so I began to set one up immediately. I never use names of the children because I am still one who gets nervous about using names of children and we only share the URL with the families whose children are on it so it is really like our own little private community, but you can make your website as public or private as you like. I believe that blogger allows you to set your blog to view by invitation only which is a wonderful extra to have.
If you decided to do so, you could even add extra things to help earn money for your classroom. I added some outside advertising sources like adbrite, or adsense to my class blog so that when someone visits I earn money from their visit. These ads only pay about a penny a day, but eventually I will receive a check that I can use to buy books or art supplies for the class. I also added the scholastic book company link which earns points for our class when someone orders off of it. With those points, I can order more books for storytime and our class library! I have also added some of my affiliate buttons onto the class blog–when parents shop from the companies on my site I earn a commission from each sale. You really can’t beat all of the ways that you can earn extra money with a blog. I will be writing a post soon and share a few links that you can contact in order to make money with your blog or website–they are the companies I use to monetize becausemomsaidso.com and my class blog. =) You will love them!
There are so many great reasons to start a blog or website and many people have began their own for the following themes: To begin a journal of their college days, sharing their engagement and creating a journal of their wedding plans which can then be continued on into their wedding day, honeymoon and so on. Some have started a website to share their new baby’s birth announcement and pictures. Of course there are the adventures in mommyhood blogs and artist blogs/websites that are used as portfolios for people to showcase their work. Creating websites has become a real necessity for businesses–I mean if your business can’t be found on line then you are really missing out on a huge market.
Are you thinking of starting a website or blog? I highly suggest you jump right in. Creating your own website is a lot of fun, and can be very profitable as well. Don’t forget, I will be writing a post that will share my tips for earning with your blog or website soon so get your website started today!
Blessings,
Cheryl

This isn’t the first time Ella Bella Hairclippies (EBHC) has been featured here at Because Mom Said So; however, it is the first time that I am revealing EBHC’s redesign. I wanted to share this new and improved site with you for two reasons: 1. I love the woman behind the company 2. Ella Bella Hairclippies are adorable and you have to grab some for the Christmas stockings! Now, about the newly redesigned site! The Creator/Proprietor, Mary C. Moy, has called upon a very talented web-designer – Designs by Deanna - to custom create a website befitting of her style; however, it was most important to develop a functional and elegant website for her customers. I must say that Deanna has created a website for Mary that is cute as a button. I absolutely love the girlie graphics and Deanna paid so much attention to the littlest details on the new EBHC site that you can’t help but notice the difference between the old site and the new one. The whole site is just adorable. According to Mary Deanna’s ”prices are extremely reasonable and affordable. Check out her designs at www.designsbydeanna.net“.
BUT NOW BACK TO THE ELLA BELLA HAIRCLIPPIES SITE ITSELF! =)
There are so many new features that have been created, and so many items added to make your shopping experience that much more fun and easy. Mary has added many more clippy styles and choices. She’s dedicated a catagory just for the Holidays and another catagory called M2M Clippies (Made 2 Match Clippies) which are clippies made to match you and your little girl’s favorite designers. In addition, you can now register with EBHC for baby showers, purchase gift certificates, and/or to place custom orders. The best feature yet about the newly improved site is her LIVE HELP function. YES, live help. Someone can help you along the way while shopping online. Just click the “live help ” button from the beautiful invite that comes up or click on the button on the left bar of the webpage… EBHC has definately evolved not only in the technical aspect, but also with their hair clip designs. This is the third time I am working with Ella Bella Hairclippies –SO you know that I love her items. I would not feature a company three times if they did not have a proven track record. My readers, my friends, even my family have purchased items from Ella Bella Hairclippies and all have been very satisfied with their purchases. I am so happy that Mary is doing YET ANOTHER GIVEAWAY for us here at Because Mom Said So. Before I get to the prize and the rules I want to share my favorites–needless to say I had about 50 favorites because I LOVE the adorable clippies Mary creates, but I had to limit the number I put here so please head over to Ellabellahairclippies.com to see the entire line for yourself! (They make GREAT stocking stuffers!)

Fill in this blank: Women are not permitted to enter the ________ event in the Winter Olympics.
It is hard to believe that there is an event that is not open to both men and women isn’t it? I mean isn’t the whole idea behind the Olympics supposed to be sportsmanship? OH I get it—It’s sportsMANship. At least that is what it seems many women are complaining about lately. There is in fact ONE event that is NOT OPEN TO WOMEN in the Olympics; that sport is the SKI JUMP. Men’s ski jumping has been an event in the winter Olympics for years–Now women are fighting to try to get the International Olympic Committee to lift the bar on women which does not allow women to compete in this traditionally male event. The IOC claims that there are not enough women competitors world wild to fascilitate this change and that it isn’t about discrimination, but women are not buying it. The argument has also been made that people just don’t want to see or participate in ski jumping anymore because more peopleare into snowboarding and other extreme sports. The IOC belieive the desire to see the sport expanded just isn’t strong enough to make it an issue. The problem with the lack of interest argument however is this: The Olympic committee has added events for women to the Olympic program in recent years which have had less participating athletes, nations, and universality in competitions than women’s ski jumping.
Oh ladies…. I thought we had come further than this! I guess it’s okay for a woman to go on skiing holidays but they shouldn’t be permitted to do anything extreme. Okay–now I am starting to sound like a feminist, but I can’t help but feel badly for those women who have dedicated a good portion of their lives to honing their skiing skills and whom already professionally take on the ski jump anyway. I just think its ridiculous to keep the event out of the olympics when women are already competing in this sport outside of the olympics. To me this whole thing screams inequality!
All of this seems pretty crazy to me considering the fact that the Olympic Charter specifically states one of the missions and roles of the IOC is ”to encourage and support the promotion of women in sports at all levels and in all structures with a view to implementing the principle of equality of men and women”. So where is the equality in omitting women from this particular sport?
Further still, and I quote this, the Olympic Charter also specifically states that “Any form of discrimination with regard to a country or a person on grounds of race, religion, politics, gender or otherwise is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement” as a fundamental principle of Olympism”
What is your opinion on this matter? Do you think Women should be permitted to compete in the Ski Jump in the 2010 Winter Olympics?
Oh and one more great fact to add here: A WOMAN jumped the longest ski jump ever, 240 meters in 2005, but fell, and the length was never considered a World Record.
There is currently a petition on-line that women and men are signing to show support for the women who want their chance t compete in the Ski Jump in the 2010 Winter Olympics. If you would like to show your support and sign this petition click here! I signed =)
Feel free to comment on this subject.

Ever notice that when someone yawns in your company that moments later the yawn spreads to everyone else? WHY THE HECK IS THAT? lol
I found this interesting article on MSN this morning. Although they really don’t know for sure why people yawn after seeing someone else yawn they do have a few theories about it.

There are some very interesting facts about yawning in the article–Did you know that on average people yawn about 10 times an hour???? Thank God it’s normal-I thought it was just me! The article also says it isn’t necessarily a sign of our being tired and that excessive yawning can be a sign of an illness.

Interestingly, babies yawn in the womb, thus yawning is something we are conditioned to do from the start–but why? There is definitely a purpose to yawning but scientists are not sure exactly what it is. The myth that it serves to bring oxygen to the body has been dismissed after scientific testing proved that it was false. They put people in a room with increased oxygen and those subjects did not yawn any less. Interesting isn’t it?
A few years back I was watching a documentary on people who were paralyzed and the narrator was discussing the fact that when a paralyzed person yawns they can momentarily/involuntarily move their limbs–interesting fact isn’t it? I was hoping the article would mention this too but it did not. I will have to Google it and see if anything else has been studied and noted regarding that fact.
Some celebrities yawning—WOW even supermodels look dopey in the process of yawning-good to know! lol
Gisele
Marissa Tomei
Reese Witherspoon
Guess who crashed too many weddings! lol
If you would like to read the article I have attached its link below. I have also included a link to a bunch of celebrity pictures wherein everyone is yawning–
Why are yawns contagious?
