  Great gift idea alert!

I have a fantastic idea for the Man and Woman on the run:  EBOOKS!     I don’t know why I have never thought of this one before, but it makes complete sense.  Many of my friends commute to Manhattan via the subway or the Express Bus and they are avid readers.   Quite a few of them have become huge fans of the Ebook craze.  They swear they will never buy a traditional hard cover or paperback again–they have been bitten by the ebook bug!  For those of you who don’t know what an ebook is, it is a book that has been specially formatted to be read on a computer or hand held reader.  Ebooks are spreading like wild fire due to their practicality; they are so easy to take on the go and they are pretty reasonably priced, PLUS there are tons of titles available from the classics we studied in school, to self help, to today’s favorite crime novels and dare I say it the  Twilight books (which I have not read but I know are being consumed by the masses!). 

     I have been thinking about how great a gift ebooks will make for everyone.  You could give the gift of ebooks to the college students on your list.  What a perfect holiday gift for them for the next semester of school–a gift card to an ebook store online!   ITS ABSOLUTELY GENIUS!  I wish that the ebook had come around years ago when I was in college!  Imagine not having to carry around those text books and novels that we had to carry to classes?   

      How about a devotional ebook for that person who may be struggling this season–many of us know of someone who is dealing with a loss or separation (myself included) and a devotional, inspirational, or self help ebook would make a perfect pick me up gift.  What a wonderful way to say you are thinking of that person and that you support them and are praying for them.  

      How about an ebook on classic cars or golf for the Mr.  or a Guide to gardening for the Mrs. (or what ever other topic that he or she may be interested in).  There are so many genres of ebooks available that you really can’t go wrong!  I was over at an ebook store earlier and they have over 500,000 titles available.  You would surely find something there for  those you love on your shopping list.

It is 4:30 A.M. and here I am writing a blog post about ear pain relief.  My 6 year old woke me up about a half hour.  He was in tears and in excruciating pain with an ear ache that came out of absolutely no where.  I managed to get him to take some pain reliever (Tylenol) which in itself is usually a great task as he hates the taste of most medicines (Don’t they all?).  I then got him a warm rag to put on the ear because I heard that it relieves pain but that did not help.  I decided to google home remedies and came up with a homeremedies.com site which offered lots of solutions; most of which wanted me to put solutions and mixtures in his ear which I wasn’t comfortable with.  Here is the one I felt safe trying and which WORKED 100%

     I had a box of minute rice (doesn’t have to be minute rice, regular rice will work too) and poured a bunch of it in one of my cotton socks then rubber banded the end to keep it from spilling out. I placed it in the microwave for about 45 seconds then placed it on my own ear to make sure it wasn’t too warm for my son.   I placed the warmed sock of rice on his ear and within 3 minutes (maybe less) he was feeling completely better!  I made him leave it on for about 15 minutes as directed and he claimed that he felt like there was loose liquid inside but all the pain was GONE!  We will be going to the Dr. later to check it out –but I have to say this home remedy worked a miracle for my little buddy!  He is sound asleep on the couch!  TRY the sock full of warm rice method  the next time you have a problem ear in your family!

They also say that the heated rice sock is great for a stiff neck-Which I have done in the past and YES it works on that too.  What a blessing we have in RICE.

     There are a few prayer requests this week. 

I am sad to say that Mandi from Snuggle Time Embroidery (one of our past giveaway providers and a Because Mom Said So reader) has a little one with H1N1.   Her daughter was brought to the E.R. as they suspected dehydration because she had been vomitting and wasn’t eating or drinking.  She was later informed that it was H1N1.  Mandi tells me that it is a terrible strain and that her daughter feels so sick.  You can imagine the fear that this family is facing.   Please mention her child in your prayers.

I also ask that you keep “Chris” in your prayers who is recovering from surgery–she had a few cancerous cysts removed from both of her breasts.  She is in recovery and we are praying that nothing else is found in the other cysts that were removed.

Also keep in prayer our men and women over seas and their families here in the states.  I can’t imagine what it must feel like to be away from home especially so close to the holidays. 

I pray for our president.  Whether you approve or disapprove of him, let us pray that he lets God lead him and help him make good decisions for our country.
