Kelly Ripa is the spokeswoman for a wonderful fund raising campaign that is being sponsored by Electrolux. Kelly and Electrolux are asking that you open up your own virtual lemonade stand in support of Ovarian Cancer funding. For each lemonade stand that is open on line, Electrolux will be donating $1 toward the cause. When you open up a stand or donate to an already established stand you are entered to win a french door refrigerator. Here is some more information from their home page:
Electrolux and Kelly Ripa are proud to support the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund whose mission is to fund research to find a method of early detection and ultimately a cure for Ovarian Cancer. Electrolux has committed to donate $500,000 to this worthy cause.
*As part of its lemonade stand campaign, for each stand opened, Electrolux will donate $1 to OCRF (with a minimum of 10k and a maximum of 15k).
Becausemomsaidso.com has its very own stand! Happy Birthday Libby Neas!
Just a short post to wish fellow blogger Libby Neas of Neas Nuttiness a very happy birthday. Yes, I know that is a strange picture to post–I could have chosen a birthday cake or presents, but Libby LOVES PUGS! So when I saw that picture I just knew it was perfect for her. =) Happy birthday Libby and God Bless.
When my first son was born I used to say my prayers (sometimes out loud and other times to myself) over his crib. Most nights it was a peaceful prayer thanking God for the wonderful day and the wonderful baby I held in my arms, but others it was more of a “Please Jesus, help me get him to settle in. Give me the strength Lord to get through this, I know it isn’t the end of the world God, but it feels like it’s never going to end God” sort of prayer. I know I am not alone in that category; being a mom is definitely the biggest challenge I have ever faced and we all know that it doesn’t end. Each day is a new challenge. The only thing I have found that gets me over those moments where I feel like I am going to break down and cry is turning my thoughts to God.
I always knew that the best way to teach your child to be a good person is to model those behaviors you want them to adopt themselves, so as my son got older we would say our prayers together. As the years passed I realized that he really is a pretty great Christian–or simply a great person himself–without me telling him to pray. Whenever he finds out that someone is not feeling well or is sad or anything slightly wrong that kid will shout out a prayer to Jesus. Its funny actually, but so sweet too. A few nights ago I wasn’t feeling well at all. I was feeling a bit green but not in the its good to be green way. He saw me holding my stomach and asked me what was wrong. I told him I didn’t feel well and he just sat up in his bed and said: “Excuse me Jesus, sorry to bother you, but could make my mom feel better? Thanks Jesus”. It was just so sweet. There are so many wonderful moments like that which I could share but the cutest yet was a little prayer that happened last night which I would love to share with you.
Last night just before bed the two boys (6 and 4) decided they were going to argue about who got to pick the movie we were going to watch. I don’t have to tell you that it got loud and escalated to the point where they were hitting each other. I am just SO OVER this hitting and fighting stuff it makes me sick! I told them that there would be no movie before bed and we headed into the bathroom to wash up. They both screamed and cried and got angry that they were being punished with no movie BUT I stuck to my punishment and marched them down to bed crying. I tucked the 6 year old in and then the 4 year old. I sat at the edge of the 4 year old’s bed like I do every night and listened to them both beg me to put their bedroom television on (they feel safer with it on….I usually put them to bed with a half hour tv show and they doze off that way). “Nope, you need to understand that fighting is not acceptable” I said. The little one settled in okay, he didn’t really care that the tv was off, he had me for company, but the 6 year old has such deep fears that it breaks your heart and was sniffling and wiping his tears. “Mommy would you lay with me till I fall asleep?” Break my heart more why don’t you! I told him I would as soon as the little one fell off to sleep (other wise the little one would get up and start jumping on the bed—been there done that.) “But I’m scared without the T.V.” he said. I spoke softly to him and I said: “You know what I do when I am scared and feeling lonely?” “What?” he asked. “I ask God to send my angels around me and then I don’t feel scared or lonely anymore.” He began to to talk to God (forgot all about the crying and lack of T.V.)
Excuse me, Jesus? Could you send my angels to sleep with me for a little while because I am scared and lonely. Could you do that Jesus? It’s really dark in here and mommy has to sit with Michael-so could you do that for me? Thanks Jesus. ”
Melted. I just melted and my eyes began to fill.
I said: “Oh Ryan I see your angels coming down to you. Do you feel them with you?”
He said: “They are?” He opened his arms to catch them (I guess) or hold them and he said: “Mommy, is Granny here? (my grandmother who passed) and Chloe and Ben (his pets that have passed)” Trying not to cry I said Yes they are. He smiled such a huge smile and asked if he could hug them. I said: “Of course you can–you hold on to them until I can come sit with you okay?” It was such a tender moment and I wish I had it on video because it was one of those moments that you just want to remember forever.
About ten minutes later the little one had fallen asleep and I got up to see if the older one was still awake–he was. He asked if his brother was asleep and I said that he was. He sat up and spread his arms wide and said: “Thank you Jesus, you can take my angels back in case someone else needs them.” I was just so proud of him as a person at that moment. I sat on his bed and told him that was nice of him to send his angels to other children. He gave me a hug and said he was sorry that he his brother and we nuzzled together until he fell asleep.
It is so important to teach them young.
Feel free to share your own stories about bed time prayers here too. Have a longer one that you would like to share? Email it to me, I would love to publish it here. You can email me at cnelsonhandley@gmail.com

My sincere apologies everyone…I previously published a very nice review and giveaway for Baby Half Off But was asked this morning to change the article because the site owner had an issue to deal with in terms of the giveaway prize. As I have not yet written back to her to solve the issue I did not want to leave the post up here and have people enter to win something that might not be available. SO, I am sorry. I will be speaking with Baby Half Off in more detail later this morning to find out what they would like me to do in terms of a new giveaway. Again, I am sorry.
Blessings on this Tuesday Morning,
Cheryl
