Giving to the Kids - A Lesson for the Kids

We started a new tradition this year and that is to take the boys to donate toys and food in a local food and toy drive. We have donated cash in the past, but I don't think the boys really understand the meaning of that. So, we went shopping picked out a bunch of toys and food and then brought 3 suitcases full to the toy and food drive today.

There's Malcolm below stacking toys for the kids. Malcolm had a great time picking out toys for boys, girls and babies. He even picked out this cool Batgirl Barbie that I wanted for myself, but in the spirit of the season, I did give it away. ;-)

And here's Natey. He had a bit of trouble understanding the concept of giving the toys, but he did great in stacking too. He was enjoying looking to see what other toys were there and was fine with just watching...until he saw a sea creature toy. Nathan is bonkers about sea creatures (thanks to Nemo & Shark Tale).

All in all, it was a great day and a good lesson for the boys. The whole event was pretty amazing and it was great to see people and companies delivering truckloads of toys and food. It's going to go a long way to making a great holiday season for those who normally go without.

Alice this warms my heart like none other. When my brother and I were young my mother had us very active in doing food drives, and visiting with "old folks" who don't have family to talk with, putting together boxes for the homeless for Christmas...etc.

This is why I have such a passion for helping others ... I thank my mom for instilling that in me. I think you're doing a great thing for your sons to get them involved like that. And I bet it made them feel good to help and that feeling will only grow and deepen the older they get.

I can't wait until my son is old enough to do these things! And the pictures of your boys are so adorable! You need to scrapbook those ;)
